The papaya mealybug, Paracoccus marginatus Williams & Granara de Willink (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Pseudococcidae) which wasn't previously recorded from Egypt, has been recorded for the first time, as a genus (Paracoccus Ezzat & McConnell, 1956) and species. The papaya mealybug is highly polyphagous and has been recorded on 14 plants within 14 genera belonging to 12 families. P. marginatus spreads rapidly, it is a cosmopolitan species, distributes to over 62 countries and causes serious injury to the host plants resulting in economic damage. Classical biological control plays a major role in managing P. marginatus in the regions where it has been invaded.
